As a brand new business to the Thompson-Nicola Region, I would like to introduce myself. I am Bree Patterson, owner and communications specialist of Just.Ag Productions! Your one stop shop for quality communications, tailored for the agricultural producer and their consumer!

In good old, get to know ya fashion, I thought it would be more fun to make this post a Q & A styled interview. (And yes I stole this from my other business, B.C.P.hoto!) So if you're curious about your new neighbourhood communicator, keep reading!

Q: How long have you been in the communications field?
A: I officially opened Just.Ag Productions at the beginning of 2017, during the last few courses of my Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communications degree. I have always been keen about communications, thanks to my early start as an eager 4-H member, but had never seriously considered it as a field or an area of study until years after I had already completed my diploma in Animal Science and worked in the agricultural industry. At that point I decided I wanted to work towards my dream of operating a communications company, tailored for the agricultural industry in Canada. This new career aspiration took me back to the textbooks in 2015 and as of April 30, 2017, I am officially no longer a student! YAHOO!

Q: What types of communications packages do you offer:
A: You'll see under the Portfolio tab, that I focus on three main pillars of communications:
  • Social & Digital Media
  • Education
  • PR & Marketing
Most of these areas overlap with one another, so my business is built to be à la carte or better yet - a u-pick! (Get it! I made a berry commodity pun!)

Q: What is your favourite part of communications?
A: My favourite part of communications is networking. I love being able to meet new people and learn from them, especially in a world that's become digital, allowing for greater and more diverse interactions.

Q: Why did you choose agriculture as your company's focus?
A: It's a well known fact that I LOVE cows, so I thought why not talk about agriculture?!

On a serious side, I chose agriculture because I've been actively involved in the industry since I was a child. As the world becomes more urban, and the divide between city dwellers and farmers becomes more obvious, I realized there was a need for effective communications between the two groups. This choice to create a business that allowed for networking between both producers and consumers, has allowed for some amazing conversations and discussions, unveiling an unexpected common ground held by both sides.

Q: So you say you love cows, what else are you passionate about besides communications?
A: I've coined the phrase Cameras, Cows & Crops for good reason when I talk about my passions!
In addition to owning Just.Ag Productions, I own and operate a photography business, which hits the head on the camera aspect of my passions.

Q: You have another business? Do tell!
A: I operated a photography company - B.C.P.hoto - for six years that focuses on 4 main pillars of photography:
  • Portrait - anything with a person in it
  • Agricultural - anything with an agricultural commodity or story to be told
  • Fine Art - anything worthy of becoming a canvas on your wall
  • Motivational - anything worthy of making the world a better place

Q: Now that we know all the business stuff, what are some fun facts about you?
A: I love the colour orange, I have a Cardigan Corgi named Ruthie, I consider myself a Western Canadian as I've lived in both BC and Alberta, I live in the community of Duck Range & I'm a bit of a David's Tea junkie!

Now that I've had the chance to introduce myself, I'm thrilled to network and connect with new clients, producers and consumers across the great province of British Columbia!

"Howdy" is short for "How are thee?" or "How are you?" If you have this name for a nick name then it must be really kind of your parents to remind you that it's your job to ask them how they are doing. We all wanted to be asked how are we doing once in a while. We could be on a verge of a breakdown and yet still be able to smile. If anyone happens to ask have we been okay then it seems a lot easier for us to get by knowing someone actually cares.
