At the beginning of April, I was invited to speak to the 116 youth competing at the 20th Prospect 2000 Cattle Show, held in Kamloops, BC. My topic for this presentation was on my life and career in the agriculture industry, as well as the Cattlemen's Young Leaders & Young Cattlemen's Council programs. Often people think that the only jobs in agriculture are that of a farmer or vet. But, if you were at Prospect 2000 this year, you would have learned that there's many more careers out there.
It's interesting to see how a simple presentation on ones life can get people excited and thinking! After covering my youth and the various careers I've had over the last decade, I enjoyed chatting with the participants afterwards. It was interesting to see how my presentation inspired them to think outside the box and consider jobs other than a farmer or a vet.
Speaking engagements are one of my favourite ways to help tell the stories of agriculture. And this one was no exception! Speaking (and story telling through photography, design & writing) have all been heavily interlaced in my various careers in agriculture and is a cornerstone of Just.Ag Productions.
